My word count: 200- I had my heart broken 1 time…but I married him anyway.
Silence hung heavy like a thick winter curtain between them. Music played in the background. A cell phone rang. A woman laughed.
The candle burning between them on the table danced excitedly. She stared at him, unsure of what to do. His eyes locked on hers, waiting an answer.
“I want truth.” He said. “I want what we truly are. This pretense of normalcy, I can’t do it anymore.” His tone softer than the silk of her panties.
“I don’t know if I can give it to you,” She admitted.
“Give me your heart, and I’ll give you mine.” A promise. The ends of her painted lips curved gently, a dimple formed on her cheek.
“For how long?” she toyed with the prongs of her fork with her finger tips.
“Until it stops beating.” He took a swig of his brandy.
“What will we be?” She waved away a waiter offering more wine.
“We will be us. In our truest form.”
“What will I call you?”
“Husband in public and Sir in bed.” He grinned.
“Marriage?” Her eyes widened.
“Yes, and more.” His voice held excitement, like a little boy about to meet Willy Wonka.
“I like more.”

My Valentine’s Day consists of going to a wedding, that is almost 2 hrs drive. Ah well. I will share this however. My first date with my husband occurred on Valentines day 19 yrs ago. We both worked at the McDonald’s in the mall. He asked if he could walk me home. I said sure.
However, instead of going home he asked if I wanted to grab a bite to eat. I said sure. We went to a nearby hot dog stand, where I impressed him with my eating skills- meaning that I was the first girl he’d taken out that actually ate something. When he actually did walk me home, he pulled out a heart shaped box full of chocolates from his back pack. Once we arrived at my house, we were standing in front of my house talking and I was waiting for him to kiss me. Just as he was finally going to do it…. my mother comes bounding down the sidewalk with my dog!!! So I got no kiss.
We made plans for the weekend and he left. Apparently, my mother had seen me walking with “a strange guy” as she drove home from somewhere, and took my dog as protection to see if she could catch up to us. I got my first kiss 4 days later and it was AWESOME!
How lucky I was to meet the love of my life at the age of 16… even if we didn’t figure out the whole spanking and D/s thing til later… Although..there is a story about a purple whip during my senior year that I might share sometime.
I like the story of your date, and how endearingly sweet.
I also really liked the story, love how dialogue can reveal so much.
Great story! Oh and happy 1st date anniversary and of course Valentine's day 🙂
I too had a first date on Valentine's that didn't end in a kiss, but a marriage. (Maybe I should have taken the kiss instead.) The story was sweet and powerful and i loved it. Thank you.
Wonderfully written dialogue. My heart went, “Awe.”
Looking forward to the purple whip story, but also the story of how he broke your heart… but you married him anyway.
