E is for Electricity

I have never used electricity during play, but it looks extremely interesting.  I’ve seen others play with violent wands, and the players seemed to be enjoying themselves immensley.  I wonder if it’s the pain that comes with the shock, or is the heat that comes afterward? Is it the suspense of the shock coming? Is it even as shocking as it looks?

I will say that the top electrode in the above picture has me wondering about its use. Any ideas?
